Pennsylvania is still one of the top five handfuls of sports betting, despite higher taxes and fees than some other states. New Jersey, the state that is taking the sports betting case to the Supreme Court, is now enjoying the fruits of its labor. The “gold standard” for legal sports betting was the third state to accept a legal bet and continued to set state records through a competitive and operator-friendly system. Legal sports betting returned to Oregon on Aug. 27 after a long hiatus, with the first bets booked on-site at Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City. Oregon is one of the few states that already had a law allowing certain forms of sports betting, so resuming betting did not require the legislature to pass a new law or the governor to amend an existing tribal state treaty. New York is one of the youngest states to legalize and regulate sports betting, with operators launching in the state in January 2022. Due to New York`s massive population, the presence of a large number of tribal casinos, and the lure of massive sports franchises such as the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, it`s a mainstay at the top of the monthly rankings.

Ohio is another sport-mad state lagging behind in legalizing sports betting, especially given the action in many of its Midwestern neighbors. A few bipartisan lawmakers introduced a bill in 2022 that would have allowed up to 12 online sports betting, but it hasn`t gained much traction.
